well the wdfw has slammed the gold dredge miner with absolutely absurd work windows. from months to weeks and at times the rivers are either frozen or the areas are covered in many feet of snow.
we (the miners) have been fighting this for what seems ages and for all the good it did for hundreds of us to testify we might have done better talkin to a wall. the state refuses to use established science and and studies by the corp of engineers stating that you really cant screw upo a river with a 5" or smaller dredge. we have recovered many tons of lost lead (yours) and many many pounds of lost mercury from the old time bad mining practices.
we make strange bedfellows you fisherman and us miners, our dredges loosen up compacted stream gravels that enhance spawning areas there are many videos of fish feeding off the stuff that comes off the sluice on a dredge. one study although not quite scientific, they ran a standard hot dog through the suction hose through a gold dredge...

I've been trying to announce a new discussion forum for hunting, fishing, wilderness adventures, etc. for gay men in quite a few forums online today. But it seems that the general population is still too insecure at times and they just delete it or it turns into some bashing session (which then gets deleted).

I'll unashamedly admit that I've only signed up to post this announcement, and because I'm usually not welcomed on most other forums of this nature. I can't seem to get a listing through any of the major search engines so I'll just have to do it manually a site at a time.

I just wanted to pass along that in Dec. the the fishing community has lost one of the great ones "Corky Smith" a long time friend and guide. Corky helped me pick out my 1st sled, and helped me the 1st repairs as well as gave me my first hot shot plug and taught me to pull plugs. Corky is the one who got me into this buisness of guiding. I sat on the board of diirctors for friends of the cowlitz for many years and Corky was our President for most of them. I will truely miss the jolly ole' guy

OLYMPIA The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is accepting public comment on a proposed package of sport fishing rules for the 2006-07 fishing season.

The proposed rules governing the recreational harvest of game fish, food fish and shellfish will be the focus of a public hearing before the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission during its Nov. 18-19 meeting at the Heathman Lodge in Vancouver.

The commission, which sets policy for WDFW, is scheduled to vote on adoption or modification of the rules package at its February 2006 meeting.

Some of the proposals addressing major changes include:

Changing the definition of selective gear rules to allow anglers to use electric motors and to require the use of knotless nets;
Changing the size measurement for sturgeon from total length to fork length;
Increasing the daily limit for eastern brook trout from streams in the Pend Oreille River watershed;

Species affected: Sockeye salmon.

Location: Baker River from mouth to Highway 20 bridge; Skagit River from the Dalles Bridge at Concrete to a point 200 feet above the east bank of the Baker River

Reason for action: The Upper Skagit Tribe had originally scheduled a fishery from July 5 through the morning of July 6. Recreational fishing was scheduled to be closed during the tribal fishery to avoid potential gear conflicts. The tribe has rescheduled their fishery to all day on July 6, but they will not be fishing on July 5.

Other information: Daily limit is 2 sockeye salmon only. All other salmon must be immediately released unharmed. The recreational closure...

OLYMPIA -The effective date for a recently adopted statewide moratorium on wild steelhead retention will be May 1, consistent with the start of the next fishing season, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced today.

The two-year moratorium, adopted by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission during a Feb. 6 meeting, originally was to take effect April 1. The moratorium - which is scheduled to run for two years - requires anglers to release any steelhead that is not marked as a hatchery fish by a missing adipose or ventral fin and a healed scar.
